Tasks for warehouse staff were handed over on printed lists. A single task could have around 200 items, which at 10 items per page meant up to 20 pages the worker carried around the warehouse.
Warehouse staff ticked off completed actions and wrote in values by hand, and then the data had to be re-checked or re-keyed by administrative staff. The process was time-consuming, error-prone and made it hard to assess performance.
What we did
We built a system of two applications: one for warehouse staff and an administrative one for managers. The manager assigns tasks, and the worker logs in on a tablet and sees only the ones they are allowed to.
The app guides them step by step: it points to the location, the product and the quantity, and data is confirmed by scanning, with no manual re-keying of codes. Shortages and discrepancies are reported by the worker straight away in the app.
Every operation is saved with a timestamp and flows into Power BI, where you can see the number of items, delivery time, worker and process performance, and the impact of organisational changes on the results.

We changed company names and the data in the screenshots to protect client confidentiality (NOVARA, FlowWarehouse and Red Dragon are demonstration names). The graphics show a real type of report or app, not a specific client.
